Leading Florida-based Cardiologist Dr. Kevin Coy recently donated US$20,000 to the Kingston Public Hospital ,which was smoothly and quickly facilitated by the Gore Family Foundation’s (GFF) partner – the American Friends of Jamaica. Dr. Coy’s specific request and direction was for GFF to first of all, purchase an autoclave for the sterilisation of KPH’s operating equipment.

So said, so done! The sparkling, new autoclave arrived from Israel; free of shipping costs courtesy of Isratech Jamaica Limited, whilst Gore Developments Ltd covered ground transportation and handling fees. The equipment was quickly delivered to KPH for immediate use and of course, warmly welcomed by all staff there.

The autoclave which is so vital to the running of KPH’s operating theatres, is not the only good news; the funds so generously given by Dr. Coy allow for two medical engineers from the Ministry of Health to travel to New York for training in the maintenance and repair of the equipment by the actual manufacturers.

Dr. Coy, a Jamaican by birth, is the founding partner of Miami International Cardiology Consultants and a Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Aventura Hospital in Florida.

Health Minister Dr. Chis Tufton, delighted at the much-need and most welcome ‘gift’, expressed his profound appreciation to Dr. Coy on behalf of KPH and the people of Jamaica.

Yes, Dr. Kevin Coy … a friend in need, is a friend indeed … to Jamaica and especially KPH, the oldest medical institution in the English-speaking Caribbean.
