Jamaica College Construction Project Management Course JC Boys Go To Work…On Site!

The summer holidays came around and our 2017-2018 JC boys went into action; testing all the theory learned over the just finished school year. 10 students from the Construction Project Management Course went ‘on site’ for a 2-week practical stint (July 9-20, every week day!) at GDL’s Phoenix Park development at Dunbeholden, Portmore, St. Catherine.
The aspiring project managers were issued with all the necessary safety gear, participated in the requisite safety briefing session and introduced to the different departments – both on site – and within the housing project itself.

Under the close supervision of GDL’s site boss, the boys – complete with their hard hats, fluorescent vests and workmen’s ‘tough’ gloves – really got down to the practicalities (no frills, no nonsense!) of building real homes – not just on paper anymore. All the while paying keen attention to the ‘ins and outs’ of exactly how a housing scheme develops – from scratch.

The JC boys were provided with and enjoyed, an excellent opportunity; the final lesson to be learned from their already solid instruction on building houses and the management thereof. As it was last year, the dedicated professionals from the various disciplines within the construction sector, gave freely of their time, effort and considerable expertise to make the course a resounding success yet again.

Third year coming up – starting September 11, 2018!
