Christine Gore, Director of the Gore Family Foundation (GFF) took pleasure in officially handing over the Tennis Course & Development Manual for P.E. Teachers to Mr. John Bailey, Tennis Jamaica’s current President.

The manual prepared by Mr. Douglas Burke, former Davis Cup Captain for Jamaica, National Coach/Tennis Director, (1994-2010) and 2013 recipient of Tennis Canada’s‘ Coaching Excellence Award, is a comprehensive guide and course outline for Jamaican P.E. Teachers, which in donating to Tennis Jamaica, GFF hopes will further develop and grow the game of tennis at the basic, primary and high school levels island wide.

The GFF thinks Jamaican youngsters can certainly shine and compete with the world given the right environment and encouragement and of course, with a tennis course up and running in our schools – not to mention the opportunities for talented players to become possible scholarship recipients for universities in the USA, through tennis.

Philip & Christine Gore have and continue to hold, close ties with Tennis Jamaica. Their family foundation has “installed” ‘Play & Stay’ tennis programmes in the 8 basic schools under its “wing”, and the children are enthusiastic learners and love to play. There are numerous benefits to be had from the sport within the basic school age group; hand-eye coordination, self-discipline on the court, good, social interaction, enhancement of motor skills and the list goes on.

We hope and believe our ‘Play & Stay’ children will go on to represent Jamaica at the national level (why not?!) and develop a lifelong love of the game.
